A publication telling the story of my anticipated experience of going to see a ballet for the first time.
Each page of the book is unfolded as you read to reveal the story, reflective of the drama and suspense that builds throughout a performance, as well as the many layers of a ballet tutu.
The subtle imagery and notations document fragments of memories, textures, sounds and emotion relating to the performance and my personal experience with dance growing up.
The Japanese binding stitch pattern is based on the pattern and routine of tying the ribbons of a pointe shoe. A tactile experience is created for the reader through the ‘untying’ of the string to open the book, whilst each page is printed on different weights and textures of paper – reminiscent of the way that a performance engages all the senses.
